ELLEN DeGENERES’S FUNNY, BUT TRUE REAL ESTATE TIPS:
It’s a well-known fact that Ellen DeGeneres loves real estate. If she isn’t chatting about it on her talk show, then she’s exploring it in her new design show or else she & her wife, Portia, are being flaunted across headlines all over the media for their latest purchase or sale!
Ms. DeGeneres not only loves buying real estate, she loves fixing up and selling real estate too — often at a very pretty profit. A couple of cases in point being the sale of a Holmby Hills home she purchased for $39,888,000 and turned around & flipped 6-months later for $55,000,000! Or another quickie deal for Brad Pitt’s Malibu bachelor pad which Ellen picked-up for $12m and turned around and sold it for $13m almost immediately.
So, when Ellen Degeneres claims to know a few things about real estate, it’s probably worth listening. Here are just some of her tips from a segment she did on her show a while back:
REAL ESTATE TERMS & WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN:
- POTENTIAL = the yellow mold can potentially turn into black mold
- ONE OF A KIND = the builder never built another house because he’s in jail
- COZY = teeny teeny tiny – if you like the middle seat on an airplane, then this is the house for you
- SELLER IS MOTIVATED = the house is currently on fire
- CLASSIC = old
- RETRO = old
- ORIGINAL = old
- GOOD BONES = old
- NEWER = about to be old
Of course, Ellen’s definitions are funny – after-all she is a comedian – but they are also surprisingly accurate, especially all the terms for “old”! So, remember this next time you are reading a real estate listing or ad…and see for yourself if it isn’t (mostly) true. Happy House-Hunting!
